A 56-year-old man has been arrested in Oinofyta, Greece, after police investigating a illegal animal breeding facility discovered a large weapons cache inside his home.
Officers from the Mandra–Eidyllia Police Department responded to a complaint about an illegal facility for companion animals and found nine dogs and horses living in conditions that did not meet animal welfare standards.
During a subsequent search of the 56-year-old’s residence, police uncovered what they described as an extensive weapons collection, including firearms, swords, knives and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
Weapons and Ammunition Seized
According to police, the items seized from the home included:
- 32 weapons, including pistols, carbines and air guns
- 5 swords
- 18 knives
- 3 pocketknives
- 2 axes
- 1 hatchet
- 3 magazines
- 7 scopes
- 2 lasers
- 7,477 firearm cartridges
- 2,700 air gun pellets
Authorities filed a case against the man for violations of animal welfare legislation and firearms laws.
Animals Removed for Protection
The competent prosecutor was informed, and procedures began for the safe removal of the animals and their transfer to the relevant authorities so they could receive the necessary care and protection.
The arrested man was taken before the appropriate prosecutor, while the legally required administrative fines were also imposed.
