The European Council will reportedly attempt to again reach out the rival Government of National Stability which controls eastern and central Libya, two days after a top European delegation was unceremoniously ordered to leave Benghazi.

The reports emanate from the sidelines of Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025, which was held on Thursday in Rome, and which cites a meeting between Ursula von der Leyen, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, host Italian PM Giorgia Meloni and the PM of Malta, Robert Abela.

According to Greek government sources, the issue was discussed by the specific leaders, along with the overall migration crisis that emerged with migrant boats disembarking from eastern Libya in order to reach Crete or any other EU territory.

Along those lines, reports have the specific leaders approving of a new mission to Libya comprised of a EU Commissioner and relevant ministers of Greece, Italy and Malta.

On Tuesday, a European delegation led by EU Commission Magnus Brunner, who was accompanied by the migration and asylum ministers of Greece, Italy and Malta, were ordered to leave Benghazi after the de facto ruler of the east Libya government entity, Gen. Khalifa Haftar, refused to meet them without other members of the Benghazi-based Libyan House of Representatives.
