The steady extension of the tourist season is fueling optimism, highlighting Greece’s strong position as a top global destination.

The Civil Aviation Authority announced that total passengers recorded at all airports in Greece exceeded 76.24 million over the first 11-month period of the year

Fraport Greece ’s positive strategy is evident in its 2024 results, with the company having achieved a new record of 36.5 million passengers, an increase of 6% compared to the last year.

According to Fraport's data, more than 35 million passengers (specifically 35.2 million) were handled by Fraport-managed airports during the 11 months.

Nine regional airports across Greece will not be handling flights due to scheduled runway reconstruction works.

Conversely, among the popular island destinations, Mykonos was the only airport to report a decline, 

Vacation period peaks on Aug. 15 which marks the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, a national holiday for the Greek Orthodox.

Runway activity will be suspended at Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Corfu, Mykonos, Santorini, Samos, Rhodes, Lesvos, and Kavala airports in the coming months.

Overall, during the first half of 2024, Fraport Greece's airports achieved remarkable results, handling more than 12.7 million passengers, a 7.8% increase compared to 2023.

The data also showed a 6.4% uptick in aircraft movements over the same period.

In 2023, the 14 airports managed by Fraport Greece recorded 26,535,378 international arrivals compared to 24,920,400 in 2022 and 23,247,951 in 2019.
