A large-scale police operation to dismantle an alleged human trafficking and document forgery ring is underway in Athens, according to the Athens News Agency.

The operation, spearheaded by the Athens Criminal Investigation and Detection Sub-Division, began at dawn and has so far resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals, including the alleged ringleader, as reported by the Athens News Agency.

According to information provided by the Hellenic Police (ELAS), the investigation has uncovered four fully equipped laboratories used for forging official documents. Authorities are currently examining more than 500 suspected cases of illegal trafficking of migrants, as reported by ERT, Greece’s state broadcaster.
