A tragic accident in Mani, southern Greece, claimed the life of a 24-year-old motorcyclist in the early hours of Sunday, November 2, after his bike collided with a wild boar that darted into the road.
The crash took place at the 11th kilometer of the Gytheio–Areopoli provincial road, a winding route surrounded by countryside where such animals are frequently spotted. According to reports, the motorcyclist had no time to react when the wild boar suddenly appeared in front of him.
Following the collision, the motorcycle skidded out of control, hit a roadside pole, and then plunged into a ditch, sustaining extensive damage. Despite the swift arrival of emergency services (EKAB), paramedics could only confirm the young man’s death at the scene.
Local residents say the area has seen a sharp rise in wild boar activity, particularly at night, creating a serious hazard for drivers and motorcyclists. Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists traveling through rural parts of Laconia to exercise caution, especially during hours of low visibility.
The victim’s identity has not yet been made public, and an investigation is underway to determine the precise circumstances of the accident.
