A 4.3 on the Richter scale earthquake was recorded just before noon (local time) on Easter Sunday in a sea region of the central Aegean that produced an intense “seismic swarm” throughout much of February 2025, albeit without damages or injuries.
According to the Athens Observatory’s Geodynamic Institute, the quake was timed at 11.32 (09.32 GMT) and pinpointed 11 kilometers south, southwest of the Arkesini settlement on the island of Amorgos. The tremor’s depth was measured at 13.6 kilometers.
The tectonic plates beneath the maritime region between the southern Cyclades islands of Amorgos, Ios, volcanic Santorini and Anafi have generated thousands of earthquakes – thankfully light to moderate – since late January this year.
