Afroditi Nestora has been discharged from Thessaloniki’s Papanikolaou Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment following the arson attack on her home that killed her mother, Vagia Nestora.
According to a statement issued by the hospital, Nestora is in good overall condition. She has received detailed medical instructions and will continue to be closely monitored through the Plastic Surgery Department’s outpatient clinics.
Speaking outside the hospital, Nestora first thanked the doctors and nurses at Hippocratio Hospital, where she, her father, and other residents of the building were initially treated following the attack.
She also expressed her gratitude for the doctors’ persistent efforts to save her mother’s life, although they were ultimately unsuccessful.
Nestora went on to thank the staff at Papanikolaou Hospital, where she had spent the previous 15 days.
“Everyone was exceptional. They embraced me and truly helped me a great deal as I began trying to return to normal life,” she said.
She stressed, however, that her recovery was far from complete.
“My recovery is not over. I will continue to face difficulties for several more months, with dressing changes, appointments, and visits to doctors,” she said.
Nestora added that she would use all the strength she had left to rebuild her life and regain her independence.
“I will try in every possible way, and with whatever strength I have left, to stand on my own two feet again,” she said.
She described her determination to recover as a response to what she called an act of terrorism and a murderous attack.
Nestora also said she hoped that her efforts would make her mother proud, along with her father and everyone who had supported and believed in her.
The Hospital’s Medical Statement
According to the official medical update, Nestora had been hospitalized since July 2, 2026.
She was initially admitted to the hospital’s Burns Unit and was later transferred to the Plastic Surgery Department.
Throughout her hospitalization, she received the appropriate supportive medical treatment.
Her clinical condition remained stable and gradually improved. Based on her current condition, doctors determined that continued hospitalization was no longer necessary.
She was therefore discharged in good overall health, with detailed instructions concerning her ongoing care and recovery.
The hospital confirmed that she would remain under close medical supervision through scheduled outpatient appointments.
One of Three Culprits Arrested Detained
Following the arrest of three suspects, one of them, a 2-year-old university student, was found out to be the owner of the apartment where the other accused took refuge afterwards.
Following his testimony, the investigating judge and prosecutor unanimously agreed that he should remain in custody pending trial.
According to information cited by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, he continued to deny any involvement in the attack and reportedly claimed that he did not know why an abandoned house he had made available was being used.
The student also maintained that he did not know those suspects.
Responding to questions from the investigating judge, he reportedly said that he had given the house keys to someone he knew through the university community. He claimed that he did not know who later received the keys or how they were passed on.
The 24-year-old and his two co-defendants face a series of serious criminal charges, including completed and attempted homicide with possible intent, as well as participation in a terrorist organization.
The two other defendants, a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, had already been sent to prison following their testimony before the same investigating judge.
