The chief appellate-level prosecutor in the south-central city of Lamia has reportedly appealed a lower judicial council’s decision to parole jailed ex-Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) founder and leader Nikos Michaloliakos.

Word of the decision to release the latter from a prison within the wider Lamia area generated heated reactions on Thursday in the country. He was serving a 13-year and six-month sentence for running a criminal organization, as the extreme-right with neo-Nazi overtones party was deemed. He was convicted in 2020.

The Lamia prosecutor’s appeal essentially maintains that Michaloliakos does not meet the requirements for release, such as showing remorse and a “moral improvement” for the offenses for which he was convicted.
