The chief prison guard accused of complicity in a deadly shooting inside Domokos Prison was granted additional time to prepare his testimony and is scheduled to appear before an investigating judge on Friday.

Authorities brought the guard before a prosecutor in Lamia under heavy police presence outside the courthouse. The judge handling the case ordered his arrest after reportedly finding inconsistencies in earlier statements and was not convinced by his explanations.

Police arrested the guard Wednesday in Karditsa on a warrant issued by the investigating judge. He was held at the local police directorate before being transferred to court in Lamia.

The fatal incident took place inside the chief guard’s office at Domokos Prison. A Bulgarian inmate serving a lengthy sentence has been charged with intentional homicide committed in a calm state of mind, as well as illegal weapons use. He appeared before a prosecutor earlier this week.

According to information emerging from the investigation, judicial authorities questioned the guard’s claim that the inmate had acted to “save” a correctional officer. Witness statements from other prison staff reportedly contradict his account of how events unfolded.

Investigators are examining testimony indicating that the victim did not carry the weapon into the office, contrary to earlier theories. Some witnesses also stated that inmates the guard claimed were outside the office were in fact inside at the time. They further reported that gunshots were heard almost immediately after the victim entered, suggesting a much shorter sequence of events than previously described.

Authorities are also reviewing how the weapon entered the prison. While one theory suggested inmates may have smuggled it inside, current information indicates the victim did not bring the firearm into the facility.

The investigation remains ongoing as judicial officials work to clarify the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and determine the extent of the guard’s alleged involvement.
