Μake us preferred on Google A 41-year-old motorcyclist was arrested after committing 16 traffic violations within minutes while trying to evade a police stop in central Athens, according to Greek police.
The incident took place at midday on August 29, when officers spotted the man riding a motorcycle in central Athens and signaled for him to stop for a traffic check.
Instead, police said, the rider accelerated after noticing the officers and began driving dangerously through the capital.
Seven red lights and nine wrong-way violations
During his attempt to escape, the motorcyclist ran seven consecutive red lights and entered one-way streets in the wrong direction nine times.
Police said the violations put other drivers and pedestrians at risk.
Officers followed the motorcycle from a safe distance, using the patrol car’s lights and siren while simultaneously notifying the Immediate Action Center.
A coordinated police operation followed, and the motorcycle was eventually stopped in Agioi Anargyroi, a municipality in the Athens metropolitan area. The 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
€5,975 in fines
The Athens Traffic Subdivision opened a case against the man for dangerous driving and violations of Greece’s Highway Code.
He was taken before the competent prosecutor, while administrative fines totaling €5,975 were imposed for the traffic violations recorded during the incident.
