A driver in the northwestern Greece took an unfortunate turn and ended up stranded on a set of stone steps leading up to the historic Ioannina Castle.
The incident occurred late Tuesday afternoon, when the driver tried to pass through one of the castle’s gates—an entrance that leads only to stairs rather than a roadway.
According to witness accounts and photos from the scene, the car became lodged on the steps after entering the gate.
No injuries were reported, and no significant damage was caused, but the incident drew attention from passersby and raised questions about how the driver managed to enter the restricted space.
Local residents and business owners say this is not the first time such an incident has occurred at the castle, particularly involving visitors unfamiliar with the layout of the site.
They are now calling for improved signage at the entrances to prevent similar incidents in the future, warning that the lack of clear directions could eventually lead to a more serious accident.
The Ioannina Castle is the fortified old town of the Ioannina which dates back to the late Ottoman period under Ali Pasha around the 10th century.
