A 45-year-old woman was arrested in Chania after being caught riding her electric bicycle under the influence of alcohol. Authorities from the local traffic police stopped the woman during a routine check and determined that she was intoxicated.
As a result, her e-bike was impounded and she was issued a fine of €1,200, reflecting strict penalties for alcohol-impaired driving, even for electric mobility vehicles.
This incident follows a similar case in Attica, where a young woman was caught riding an electric scooter with a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit. She was fined €300 and her scooter was confiscated.
Police emphasize that these measures are part of ongoing efforts to ensure road safety amid the rising popularity of electric bicycles and scooters, which are increasingly used in urban areas across Greece.
