One of Athens’ most iconic open-air cinemas is set to welcome audiences earlier than usual this year, as Cine Paris launches its summer season on April 23.
Located in the historic Plaka district, the rooftop cinema is entering its third consecutive season since reopening under film distributor Cinobo. The venue has quickly re-established itself as a favorite among moviegoers, offering a carefully curated program in a unique outdoor setting.
Opening Week Highlights
The opening week will feature two films by acclaimed Greek director Alexis Damianos, alongside recent international releases. Among them are The Drama, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, as well as Father Mother Sister Brother by Jim Jarmusch, which won the Golden Lion award.
Upcoming Releases and Summer Program
In the weeks that follow, the cinema will screen a mix of contemporary productions and festival premieres, including The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Bitter Christmas, the latest film by Pedro Almodóvar, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival.
Greek cinema will also have a strong presence, with Arkoudotrypa—an award-winning film recognized at the Venice Film Festival and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival—included in the lineup.
Classics and Special Tributes
Classic film lovers can expect anniversary screenings such as Amélie, marking 25 years since its release, and A Place in the Sun, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift, and Shelley Winters.
The summer schedule also includes themed tributes. From mid-June, weekly screenings will showcase landmark Greek films, while a “Love Stories Under the Stars” series will feature popular romantic titles from the 2000s, including Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Moulin Rouge!, Lost in Translation, and Chocolat.
In August, a special tribute will honor Jane Austen, marking 250 years since her birth with a selection of film adaptations based on her work.
A Global Recognition
With a history spanning more than a century, Cine Paris was recently named the world’s best open-air cinema by Time Out. Since its reopening in 2024, it has stood out for its distinctive atmosphere and carefully selected programming.
