More than 90 kilos of cocaine were seized at the port of Piraeus earlier this month inside a container loaded with bananas from Ecuador, according to the country’s tax bureau (AADE).

Acting on information collected by the harbor corps, AADE inspectors discovered the drugs packed in 80 plastic bags and hidden among the fruit cargo. The haul is estimated to have a street value of 4.1 million euros.

The container was offloaded at the port of Piraeus on Nov. 13 from a Panama-flagged vessel, and was destined for the northern city of Thessaloniki.

No arrests were reported in the case, while a search in Thessaloniki failed to find any more illegal narcotics.
