A 28-year-old delivery driver has been brought before a Greek investigative court following a series of violent attacks targeting pedestrians in northern suburbs of Athens, including Kifissia and Dionysos. The suspect, originally from Pakistan, is accused of assaulting at least eight people using stones, in incidents that have caused widespread concern among local residents.
According to court proceedings, the man faces one felony charge of grievous bodily harm with intent, along with multiple misdemeanor charges including dangerous bodily harm, assault against vulnerable individuals, illegal possession and use of weapons, and property damage.
Among the victims is a 15-year-old girl who suffered chest injuries after being struck by a stone, as well as several adults who were reportedly attacked without warning. In one case, the suspect is accused of smashing a vehicle’s windows for no apparent reason.
Authorities say the suspect was arrested on Monday afternoon in Nea Erythraia near his workplace after being identified by victims. Police reports indicate that he had been operating as a delivery rider while allegedly lacking both a driving license and legal residence documents. Investigators also said he had been carrying stones inside the delivery box of his motorbike.
Victims describe sudden and violent attacks
The assaults are described in police files as unprovoked and particularly violent, with the suspect allegedly approaching victims suddenly and striking them, often aiming for the head. One woman remains in serious condition after suffering extensive facial and jaw injuries from repeated blows.
In a televised interview, the husband of one victim described the attack in detail, saying his wife was struck in the face at close range while walking near her home.
“She was out walking the dog in the afternoon when she came face to face with a delivery rider who threw a stone at her from about one meter away,” he said. “It hit her in the mouth, breaking five teeth and causing severe injuries to her jaw.”
He added that she was unable to call for help immediately due to heavy bleeding and required urgent dental treatment, including multiple root canals. The cost of her medical care is estimated at around €4,000.
Despite the shock, the victim was able to provide identifying details to police, including markings on the suspect’s delivery equipment. This information, along with CCTV footage collected from the area, helped authorities track him down within hours.
Police investigation and charges
Law enforcement officials confirmed that several complaints had been filed in the days leading up to the arrest, describing a pattern of similar incidents across the area. The suspect is now being held pending further legal proceedings.
