Greek authorities have arrested a senior guard at Domokos Prison, accusing him of complicity in the murder of a life-sentenced Greek inmate. The fatal incident took place inside the prison officer’s office, raising serious concerns about security and oversight.

The inmate, serving a life sentence for a high-profile criminal case in Zakynthos, had entered the guard’s office armed with a handgun, reportedly intending to attack the senior guard. At the time, two other inmates were present: a Bulgarian prisoner serving a life sentence for a 2018 murder in Voula, and the infamous Albanian criminal Alketa Rizai, known for his cinematic helicopter escape with Vasilis Paleokostas from Korydallos Prison.

According to reports, the Bulgarian inmate seized the weapon from the Greek prisoner and shot him, resulting in fatal injuries. Authorities are investigating this sequence of events to determine the exact circumstances of the killing.

The arrested guard is now under formal investigation, while the Bulgarian inmate appeared before the Lamia prosecutor on Monday and has requested a hearing before a magistrate scheduled for Friday morning.

The incident occurred at 6:45 p.m., a time when all prisoners were supposed to be confined to their cells, highlighting potential lapses in prison procedures and supervision.
