Multiple wildfires are currently burning in different parts of Attica, Greece, prompting mass evacuations, damage reports, and a major mobilization of firefighting resources. The most serious blazes are centered in Palaia Fokaia (Eastern Attica) and Aspropyrgos (Western Attica) with residents urged to leave their homes as fires approach populated areas.

Palaia Fokaia: Fire Near Residential Zones

The fire in Palaia Fokaia, which began in the early afternoon in the settlement of Thymari, has now spread to the borders of the municipalities of Saronikos and Lavreotiki. Local officials describe the situation as “very difficult,” with the fire moving dangerously close to residential areas.

According to the Fire Service, firefighting efforts have intensified with the deployment of additional units. Aerial and ground forces are operating continuously, supported by both municipalities.

The latest messages advised people in the neighborhoods of Katafýgi and Charakas to evacuate toward Lavrio, while earlier alerts instructed those near Palaia Fokaia to head toward Lagonisi. At least six people, including children, have been safely evacuated from homes in the areas of Tourkolimano and Thymari.

Municipal services, including public facilities and senior citizen centers in Saronikos and Anavyssos, have been opened to shelter affected residents. Local officials emphasize that the region is densely populated, complicating firefighting efforts. A team from the Arson Crimes Investigation Directorate has also been dispatched to investigate the fire’s cause.
