An explosion early on Wednesday morning February 26, in Varkiza, a seaside suburb of Athens, triggered an emergency response after a makeshift incendiary device detonated at the entrance of an apartment building.
According to reports, the device consisted of gas canisters, flammable materials, and a firecracker to trigger the blast.
The building in question is reportedly owned by Eliza Vozemberg, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Greece’s ruling New Democracy party. While Vozemberg does not use the property as her primary residence, sources suggest she may have been the intended target.
Commenting on the incident, Vozemberg told the news outlet Action24: “They threw gas canisters at my vacation home. I have received threats because I have exposed the political exploitation of the Tempi train tragedy. I am not afraid.”
The explosion caused minor damage to the building’s entrance but no injuries. Authorities have collected remnants of the device from the scene, and security services have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
