According to Greece’s official Fuel Price Observatory, the average cost of standard unleaded gasoline rose from €1.737 per liter on June 13 to €1.752 by June 19. Though the increase may seem moderate, fuel station owners report that the wholesale price jump is much steeper, and it’s only a matter of time before that filters down to consumers.
Refinery Prices Soar, Particularly for Diesel
Speaking to MEGA, the President of the Attica Fuel Retailers Association, confirmed that wholesale refinery prices have risen by €0.06 per liter for unleaded petrol and a striking €0.13 per liter for diesel.
“The increase in diesel prices is double that of gasoline. The market has absorbed much of this week’s rise, but we’re reaching our limits. We expect further increases.”
While he doesn’t anticipate a surge over the next 10 days, he expressed concern about potential hikes in the near future. “It’s important we don’t hit the €2-per-liter mark in Attica. That would be a psychological and financial blow.”
Attica and the Islands See Highs Over €2/Liter
While most of mainland Greece still sees prices under the €2 threshold, certain areas have already crossed it—particularly on the islands and in central Athens. A fuel station in Metaxourgio, a neighborhood in central Athens, posted the following prices:
- 95-octane gasoline: €2.299/liter
- 100-octane gasoline: €2.499/liter
- Diesel fuel: €2.099/liter
Other areas in the Attica region show slightly lower but still elevated prices:
- Marousi: €1.909/liter
- Alimos: €1.878/liter
- Aigaleo: €1.859/liter
Meanwhile, island communities—where fuel delivery costs are often higher—are seeing even steeper prices:
- Naxos: €2.10/liter
- Amorgos: €2.12/liter
- Antiparos: €2.14/liter
- Patmos & Rhodes: €2.17/liter
- Milos: €2.20/liter
- Kastellorizo: €2.22/liter
