Greece is expanding financial support for households by raising income thresholds for rent refunds and introducing a one-off child benefit, as part of a broader cost-of-living relief package.

The measures are expected to significantly increase the number of beneficiaries, with officials estimating that nearly one million renters will now qualify for partial rent reimbursement.

Higher Income Limits for Rent Refunds

Under the new rules, income thresholds have been increased to include more households, particularly families and single-parent households.

The revised limits rise from €20,000 to €25,000 for lower brackets and from €28,000 to €35,000 for higher brackets. For single-parent families, the threshold increases from €31,000 to €39,000, with an additional €5,000 added per child.

The changes, which come at a total cost of €25 million, are expected to bring an additional 70,000 renters into the scheme.

One-Off Payment for Families

In addition to the rent support, the government will provide an extraordinary payment of €150 per child to eligible households.

The measure, costing an estimated €240 million, is expected to benefit around 975,000 households—covering approximately 80% of families with children in the country.

The financial support will be distributed automatically, without the need for applications. Payments are scheduled to be made by the end of June.
