Greece will deploy two CL-415 Canadair firefighting aircraft to Spain to help combat major wildfires, following a request made through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
According to Greece’s Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the country has accepted Spain’s request for assistance, with the Spanish authorities also approving the Greek offer of support.
Operational planning for the mission is currently being finalized. Under the current plan, the two aircraft will land at Madrid Airport before being deployed to the wider Toledo area, where large wildfires are continuing to burn.

Authorities said they are also monitoring weather conditions along the flight route to Spain, as they could affect the aircraft’s departure time and deployment.
The mission forms part of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which enables member states to provide rapid mutual assistance during major emergencies and natural disasters.
