A 15-year-old student has died after falling from a bridge in the city of Chalkida, in central Greece, prompting an investigation into possible bullying and the circumstances leading up to his death. The incident occurred on the morning of January 8 and has shocked the local community.
According to police, the teenager was a third-year middle school student. His family has alleged that he had been subjected to systematic bullying by classmates, raising concerns about the role peer violence may have played in his mental state.
A video that has since circulated shows a violent confrontation involving the boy and other minors. In the footage, he appears to be physically attacked by peers while others record the incident. Authorities are now working to determine when the video was recorded and whether it is connected to the events surrounding his death.
Greek police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou said there had been no prior official reports of bullying filed with law enforcement. She noted that while the family has shared concerns, no formal complaints had been made to police, and it remains unclear whether any issues had been reported within the school environment.
Police have appealed to the public for any relevant material that could assist the investigation, stressing that all evidence will be examined.
