Registration of children for the 2025-2026 school year in public general education kindergartens across Greece commences on Wednesday, March 5, with the process running until March 24.

The enrollment process does not require physical presence at the kindergarten but can take place online through the “First Enrollment” platform at gov.gr, requiring login credentials from the Taxisnet system. Parents/legal guardians must select the kindergarten that corresponds to their permanent residence’s designated school district.

Required Documents

The necessary documents for registration include the child’s birth certificate, which is automatically retrieved by the system, as well as proof of permanent residence, such as a utility bill or rental agreement. Additionally, the child’s health booklet with mandatory vaccinations, a Student Health Card, and, if applicable, a certificate of attendance for siblings at the same school is required. For children with special educational needs, a diagnostic report from the KEDASY (Center for Educational and Counseling Support) must be submitted.

Parents/legal guardians must also declare the designated individual responsible for the child’s arrival and departure from the kindergarten.
Updates of the application status and any necessary corrections will be provided via SMS or email.

Enrollment Eligibility

Children eligible for kindergarten enrollment in the 2025-2026 academic year are those born in 2021 and who will have reached the age of four by December 31, 2025. Second-year kindergarten enrollment is automatic, while children aged six may directly register for primary school.

Full-Day and Early Reception Programs

Applications for the Optional Full-Day Program or the Enhanced Full-Day Kindergarten, as well as the Early Reception Section, which allows arrivals from 7:45 am are also available. The Full-Day Program accepts all children without conditions, with pick-up times set at 4:00 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. for the enhanced program. The Early Reception Section operates with a minimum of five registered students.

Private and Experimental Kindergartens

Enrollments for private kindergartens are handled directly by the schools. For Experimental Kindergartens, parents must enter an online lottery system for selection.

Transfers and Special Categories

Transfers are subject to approval by the Directorate of Primary Education. For foreign students, a translated birth certificate is required, and incomplete applications are accepted. Children from Roma communities, single-parent families, refugees, or families enrolled in rehabilitation programs are admitted without restrictions.
