A man was found dead inside his home after a fire engulfed a single-story house in the central Greek city of Volos during the early hours of Sunday.
The blaze broke out shortly before 1:00 a.m. at a residence in a central neighborhood of the city. Firefighters, supported by police officers and emergency medical services, responded to the scene as concerns grew that someone might still be trapped inside the burning home.
Body Found After Fire Was Brought Under Control
Once the fire had been contained, firefighters searched the property and discovered the body of a man believed to be around 65 years old.
According to the information available so far, the victim lived alone in the house.
The body will undergo a forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death and establish whether it resulted from the fire, smoke inhalation or another factor.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. An investigation has been launched by the Volos Fire Service’s investigative department to determine how the blaze started.
