The fatal incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m., following a heated argument between the two brothers. Neighbors, who reported hearing loud shouting and frequent disputes, said the siblings’ tensions had escalated in recent weeks. One resident recalled the suspect warning, “If he comes upstairs, I will kill him.”
The suspect, who suffers from severe alcoholism, sustained injuries during the struggle and was taken to Attiko Hospital. After receiving treatment, he was released and formally arrested.
Unlike previous reports of the victim as the aggressor, police say the 44-year-old was well-known to authorities primarily as a victim of domestic violence. According to records, he had filed six prior complaints against his brothers for abuse, starting in October 2022 and continuing through 2024. In some complaints, the eldest brother was named as the main aggressor, while one incident involved the now-deceased brother. No criminal charges were pursued in these earlier cases. In 2014, the suspect also reportedly attempted suicide.
All three brothers, sons of a deceased police officer, lived in the same household. Only the eldest sibling, 48, worked as a delivery driver and financially supported the household. The other two struggled with alcohol and substance abuse.
Over the past five years, authorities recorded six incidents of domestic violence between the victim and his younger brother, including several formal complaints.
Neighbors described the household as volatile, with daily arguments, frequent physical altercations, and property damage. The victim had reportedly confided to neighbors that he had received threats against his life in the period leading up to the murder.
