A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook the eastern Aegean Island of Lesbos (Lesvos) and the opposite west Anatolia coast on Tuesday evening.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre measured the quake, recorded at 22.38 (20.23 GMT), at 5.0 on the Richter scale.
The tremor, according to a revised figure issued by the Geodynamic Institute in Athens was pinpointed at a depth of 14.6 kilometers and with an epicenter eight kilometers northeast of the coastal town of Mithymna, on the island.
The quake was also strongly felt on the island of Chios (Hios), the port city of Izmir and as far away as the Thrace province to the north.
