Greece’s new “Neighbourhood Nannies” childcare program will officially go live on Monday, April 27, when its online platform ntantades.gov.gr opens for registrations of childcare providers, marking the start of its nationwide rollout.

The Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family Affairs confirmed that the first phase will focus on enrolling caregivers into the official registry, as the state-backed system moves toward full implementation across the country.

Platform launch for caregiver registration

From April 27, individuals interested in becoming approved childcare providers will be able to submit applications through the digital platform. The system is designed to create a regulated network of carers supporting families with very young children.

The programme is aimed at infants and toddlers aged between two months and 2.5 years, offering home-based childcare as an alternative to traditional nursery services.

Who can participate

The initiative allows a broad range of participants to register as caregivers, including professional childcare workers, students, and members of the child’s wider family environment such as grandparents.

Each approved caregiver may look after up to three children, while parents will have flexibility to change caregiver if needed, depending on their circumstances.

Financial support for parents

Once fully operational, the program will provide monthly financial assistance to families: €500 for full-time working parents and €300 for those working part-time or seeking employment.

Income limits apply but are designed to remain accessible. Households with one child may earn up to €24,000 annually, rising to €27,000 for two children, while families with three or more children are not subject to income restrictions.

Safety rules and training requirements

All caregivers must meet strict eligibility criteria before joining the system. Requirements include a clean criminal record, verified health certificates, and completion of a short online training course provided by the ministry.

Additional mandatory training in first aid is required through national emergency services or the Red Cross, ensuring a standardised level of safety and preparedness across the programme.

A new childcare support model

Officials describe the initiative as a nationwide effort to strengthen early childhood care options and support working parents by combining financial assistance with a regulated caregiver network.

By going live on April 27, the program moves from planning into implementation, opening the door for caregivers to join the system ahead of the first family applications.
