Μake us preferred on Google The investigation into the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis on September 9th at the Athens clinic during a plasmapheresis procedure is at full throttle as investigations are slowly uncovering all failures on account of the doctors involved.
“Based on an initial analysis of the records from the suspicious device, we estimate that 25 plasmapheresis procedures were being performed each month at the medical office in Kolonaki” (that is, about 300 a year), “which was of course an unprecedented number,” the official said. “In the death of Mazonakis there were at least 20 criminal errors by the doctors facing charges, as well as failures by the Athens Medical Association, which had been informed by the doctors themselves as early as 2025 that they had an ozone therapy machine for ‘removing’ an unknown substance from the human body, yet had not carried out the necessary exhaustive inspections.”
Critical Findings
The official continued: “Almost every aspect of Mazonakis’ death has been investigated, and the findings of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are considered critical in determining the communications between the popular singer and the doctor that took place to overcome the artist’s reservations about the fatal ‘treatment’ on Wednesday, September 9.
“Likewise, the analysis of digital evidence is expected to reveal a list of at least 50 known and unknown clients of the medical office, many of whom will be called to testify to authorities about how it operated. The digital data from the medical office’s devices — including the plasmapheresis machine and defibrillator — will also be examined to establish the extent of illegal activity and negligence.
“However, a critical issue is the histological and toxicological examination of Mazonakis, given that abnormalities have been found in his heart.”
The official added: “It should also be pointed out that any use of pharmaceutical substances for sedation on the unfortunate artist may not be particularly significant to the cause of his death. A major objective is to locate the huge sums collected by the medical office — without receipts — which have not been traced to bank accounts. We are examining the possible involvement of relatives or even investment entities,” the To Vima source concluded.
Fatal Errors
Police and judicial authorities have now identified dozens of instances of negligence and what they describe as fatal errors that led to the singer’s death.
According to their investigation, there was never any substantive oversight of the activities of the doctor involved, now in pretrial detention. She appears to have questioned almost all conventional medical methods and promoted what she described as “holistic methods” and the controversial practice of “quantum medicine,” which is not scientifically recognized. She also cited studies at a university in Honolulu, although the content of those studies is disputed.
In recent years, she had turned her medical office into a center for dangerous “regenerative” methods involving plasmapheresis. She was a representative of a company based in Basel, Switzerland, that manufactures such devices, and openly promoted the procedures at conferences while also making dozens of posts online.
The Athens Medical Association (ISA), meanwhile, did not carry out any decisive inspection of the medical office, despite the doctors’ attempts to indirectly legitimize the controversial “pirated” device they were using.
Under the law, plasmapheresis is permitted only for serious medical conditions in clinics and hospitals, not in private medical offices. When ISA examined the relevant machine during the 12-day period from August 28 to September 9 — a period that coincided with the summer vacation season — nine plasmapheresis procedures had already been recorded.
There was also no oversight by state authorities of the hypnotherapist mentioned in the investigation, who had entered into an agreement with the doctor to manage a clientele of susceptible members of the public. The package of “treatments” offered included hydrotherapy, plasmapheresis for the purported detoxification of the body, as well as hypnosis for the “cleansing of the soul.”
The Soul and the Body
Indicatively, in one of his books in 2018, the controversial hypnotherapist referred to the separation of the soul from the body. He also referred to phone calls from… the dead, as well as “reincarnations.”
The authorities’ investigation indicates that omissions and deliberate actions in the case of Mazonakis’ death were repeated.
The 54-year-old singer was not properly examined before the procedure, despite being in poor condition. Hydrotherapy and plasmapheresis were performed even though medical protocol specifies that the two procedures should be separated by 48 to 72 hours. There was no medical or nursing staff available to assist him in the event of an emergency, while he was possibly given a sedative without the assistance of an anesthesiologist.
When his condition deteriorated, there was also a significant delay in notifying Greece’s National Emergency Medical Care Center, leading to the tragic outcome that followed.
Forgotten
However, the legal representative of the hypnotherapist told ΤΟ ΒΗΜΑ: “Based on the evidence that has come to light publicly, it is very difficult to undermine the homicide charge with possible intent against the main defendant, although no one can prejudge a court’s decision.
“As for my client,” he said, “there was an incredible effort to turn a witness who voluntarily came forward to testify into a key ‘defendant,’ suddenly forgetting both the key actors and many prominent people who, through their omissions, ‘forgot’ to carry out inspections.”
