A police dog named Akylas has attracted attention in Greece after helping authorities uncover a hidden stash of cocaine during a drug operation in Thessaloniki.
The specially trained narcotics detection dog played a key role in locating 39 packages containing 383.1 grams of cocaine, which had been carefully hidden behind the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
Police arrested a 45-year-old man of Albanian nationality, who is accused of possessing and distributing drugs. The suspect has been taken before judicial authorities.
The operation was carried out on Saturday afternoon in an area of the Thermi municipality, near Thessaloniki, by officers from the Drug Enforcement Department of Poligiros.
Further drugs and cash found at suspect’s home
Following the arrest, police searched the man’s home, where they discovered and seized additional quantities of illegal substances.
Authorities found seven packages containing cocaine weighing 4.9 grams, three packages containing raw cannabis weighing 3.8 grams, as well as €14,520 in cash, which investigators believe may be linked to drug trafficking activity.
Police also confiscated the vehicle used by the suspect and two mobile phones, which are being examined for information related to the case.

The Regional Police Directorate of Central Macedonia published a video of the operation on its Facebook page, showing Akylas locating the hidden drugs.
The footage highlighting the police dog’s role quickly drew attention, showcasing the contribution of trained detection dogs in drug enforcement operations.
