A Greek court has postponed for a second time the trial of a 68-year-old woman and her son, who are accused of concealing the death of a person following the discovery of the woman’s mother’s remains in a basement area of their home in Marathon.

The Single-Member Misdemeanor Court postponed the trial until May 18 so that the defendant’s daughter, who reported the case to authorities, can appear before the court.

Mother hid death to collect pension

The 68-year-old has acknowledged concealing her mother’s death and burying her remains, saying she did so in order to continue receiving her mother’s pension.

According to the indictment, her son knew what had happened after his grandmother’s death. He denies the allegation.

The case concerns the discovery of the woman’s mother’s bones in a basement area of the family home in Marathon.

Defendant taken to psychiatric hospital

According to the woman’s defense attorneys, she was taken to a psychiatric hospital on Wednesday evening for involuntary hospitalization.

The trial was previously scheduled to take place before the latest postponement.
