PosoKanei: New Digital Tool to Protect Family Budgets

The government-backed app helps consumers in Greece compare supermarket prices and find cheaper alternatives while enhancing market transparency

The Greek government on Wednesday unveiled PosoKanei, a new price comparison application designed to enhance market transparency, boost competition and help households make more informed purchasing decisions.

Presenting the platform in Athens, Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos said the initiative aims to protect family incomes by giving consumers greater access to pricing information across the retail sector.

“PosoKanei is a practical tool in the hands of citizens and Greek families for their purchases,” Theodorikakos said during a joint press conference. “Informed consumers have power and, when they use it effectively, it influences the market in favor of their own interests and of Greek society as a whole.”

The launch event was also attended by Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou, Director of the Independent Market Control and Consumer Protection Authority Despina Tsangari, and George Papadimitriou, co-founder and CEO of app developer Keyvoto.

The application currently includes more than 10,000 product codes, covering both branded and private-label goods. Users can compare prices, check product availability, review price movements over the previous two months and identify lower-cost alternatives within the same product category at a given supermarket chain.

Where comparable data is available, PosoKanei also provides information on equivalent products in other European markets. Papastergiou described the platform as a clear example of how technology can address everyday consumer challenges.

“Through cloud infrastructure and continuous data updates, PosoKanei provides a comprehensive picture of the market,” he said, adding that the application forms part of the government’s broader effort to improve digital services for citizens.

The app was developed by Keyvoto, a Greek startup based in Ptolemaida, Western Macedonia, northern Greece.

PosoKanei is available free of charge through Google Play, the App Store and its online platform.
