A major weather system is set to affect large parts of Greece from Tuesday through Thursday, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds, according to the National Meteorological Service (EMY). Authorities have issued warnings, particularly for five regions placed under Red Code alerts.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, the regions of Western Greece, Epirus, and the Ionian Islands—especially Corfu—are expected to face intense rainfall and thunderstorms. On Wednesday and Thursday, severe weather will affect Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, as well as the Peloponnese. Localized heavy rainfall and potential flooding are likely in these areas.

Meteorologists also warned of gusty south winds reaching 8 Beaufort in the northeastern and southern Aegean, while temperatures are expected to rise slightly, reaching up to 20–21°C in southern regions. The weather may carry dust from North Africa, mainly impacting western and southern areas.

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection (GSCP) has urged residents to take precautions: secure loose objects, clear drains and gutters, avoid crossing streams or rivers during storms, and stay indoors during hail or lightning events. Coastal and outdoor activities should be postponed, and travelers are advised to follow local traffic and safety instructions closely.

Regional forecasts include:

  • Macedonia–Thrace: Cloudy with showers and scattered thunderstorms, intensifying by afternoon; temperatures 9–18°C.
  • Ionian Islands, Epirus, Western Sterea, Western Peloponnese: Heavy rain and thunderstorms; light snow in mountainous areas; temperatures up to 20°C.
  • Cyclades–Crete: Variable clouds, occasional rain; strong southerly winds up to 8 Beaufort; temperatures up to 21°C.
  • Eastern Aegean–Dodecanese: Cloudy with localized rain; winds 6–8 Beaufort; temperatures up to 20°C.
  • Attica: Mostly cloudy, occasional showers; winds 4–6 Beaufort; temperatures 11–19°C.
  • Thessaloniki: Cloudy, chance of light rain; variable winds 3–4 Beaufort; temperatures 10–17°C.

Emergency services, including the Fire Brigade, are on high alert to respond quickly to flooding or other storm-related incidents. Authorities emphasize that residents should remain vigilant and follow official updates as the situation develops.
