Parents and staff at a kindergarten in Thessaloniki are raising concerns after two separate snake sightings were reported on school grounds within just a few days.

The incidents took place at a local kindergarten in the Sykies area, where the first encounter occurred last Wednesday. A young child spotted a snake in the schoolyard, prompting immediate action from a staff member, who managed to remove the reptile using a broom.

However, the situation escalated days later when a second snake was found in the same area. This time, emergency services were called in to safely remove the animal.

Growing concern among parents

The repeated sightings have caused significant anxiety among parents, who fear for the safety of their children. “Parents are afraid to send their children to school,” one parent said, stressing that the situation has become increasingly worrying following the second incident.

According to their accounts, the schoolyard is located in a heavily vegetated area, with overgrown grass and dense greenery creating conditions that may attract wildlife.

Concerns are particularly heightened because of the age of the children. As a kindergarten, students spend extended time on the ground during activities and rest periods, which parents say increases potential risk.

Parents say the lack of maintenance has contributed to the problem, noting that no recent efforts have been made to clear the surrounding vegetation.
