The body of a taxi driver was recovered after his vehicle veered into the sea at the port of Piraeus on the morning of Thursday, June 4.

The car ended up submerged in the water in the area near Gate E4, triggering an immediate response from emergency services, which quickly declared an alert at the scene.

A large-scale search and recovery operation was launched from the outset, involving a Hellenic Coast Guard patrol vessel and personnel from the Hellenic Coast Guard (LS-EL.AKT.), who worked to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

At the same time, a specialized unit from the Coast Guard’s Underwater Missions Unit was deployed to assist with underwater search efforts and the procedures to locate and recover the vehicle.

A crane was also mobilized to support the operation and is expected to be used to lift the vehicle from the sea once the necessary checks are completed.

So far, no further details have been released regarding how the taxi ended up in the water, and it remains unclear whether there were any passengers inside at the time of the incident.

Investigations by the competent authorities are continuing, with officials expected to issue statements once more information becomes available.
