Thessaloniki Police Arrest Teen For Migrant Smuggling After E-Scooter Chase

The two passengers, a Nepali and a Pakistani national, had crossed illegally into Greece from Turkey

Police in Thessaloniki arrested a 17-year-old Egyptian national on Monday on suspicion of illegally transporting migrants, after officers spotted him ferrying two undocumented foreigners on an electric scooter in the Ano Poli neighborhood.

The two passengers, a Nepali and a Pakistani national, had crossed illegally into Greece from Turkey via the Evros river within the previous 24 hours and were staying temporarily at an apartment in the city, according to authorities.

When officers signaled the teenager to stop, he attempted to flee and threw a folding knife onto the road. He was apprehended on the spot and the knife was seized as evidence.

Investigators said the minor had allegedly been tasked with transporting the two migrants to another address within the city. All three individuals were detained by the DIAS motorcycle police unit.
