Greek authorities arrested three people as part of an investigation into a fatal explosion and fire at a vinegar production plant in Examilia, near Corinth, officials said on Tuesday.
The individuals arrested under Greece’s summary proceedings were the company’s 47-year-old owner, its 46-year-old safety officer and a 46-year-old operations supervisor, as investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the explosion and subsequent fire.
According to preliminary findings, a 67-year-old man was killed while carrying out welding work near a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply line when the explosion occurred. A 37-year-old man sustained minor burns to one hand in the incident.
Fire Service investigators, including officers from the Corinth Arson Crimes Investigation Unit and the Directorate for Arson Crimes Investigation, launched an immediate inquiry to determine the cause of the explosion and the fire.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining whether the required workplace health and safety measures had been implemented at the facility. The three suspects are expected to appear before the competent judicial authorities as the inquiry continues.
