A violent brawl involving local youths and foreign tourists erupted outside a popular nightlife venue in the Cretan port city of Rethymno, prompting a police response and renewing concerns over a string of disturbances linked to the island’s summer nightlife scene.

Video footage circulating online showed fisticuffs, shoving and chaotic scenes as a verbal confrontation between a group of young Greeks and German tourists escalated into a melee late Sunday night. The altercation unfolded in front of dozens of patrons gathered outside the venue.

Witnesses said the confrontation intensified rapidly before other customers intervened to separate the two groups and prevent further violence.

Police later arrived at the scene and took several individuals in for questioning. No arrests were reported.
