A female tourist was pronounced dead by rescuers at the famous Balos Beach in Kissamos, Chania. The tragic incident occurred during a hiking excursion on the way to Balos beach. The unfortunate woman, along with her friend, was following a well-known but challenging trekking path in the area when she suddenly collapsed.
At some point during the hike, one of the women lost consciousness, causing panic for her companion.
Authorities were immediately alerted, and a rescue operation was launched involving four firefighters, two vehicles, and a doctor dispatched to the scene to administer first aid. Sadly, despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead.
Rescuers managed to evacuate the two women from the hiking trail to a safe location, where an EKAV ambulance was waiting to receive them. Despite resuscitation efforts, the death of one of the women was confirmed shortly afterward.
