A 32-year-old taxi driver involved in Monday night’s serious crash in Voula, which left a 39-year-old motorcyclist critically injured, was released on restrictive terms after testifying before the investigating magistrate.

The driver appeared in court at the former Evelpidon Military School building on Wednesday. After his testimony, the court decided not to remand him in custody. He was ordered to report to his local police station once a month, and his driver’s license was suspended indefinitely.

According to reports, the 32-year-old denied the dangerous driving charge against him during his testimony. He reportedly said there was a no-entry sign in the area that he didn’t notice, claiming his GPS had given him wrong directions. He said that while following the GPS instructions, he attempted to make a U-turn, which caused the taxi to collide with the motorcycle.

The incident was caught on security camera footage, reportedly showing the taxi’s dangerous U-turn.

According to the account of the crash, the driver didn’t notice through his mirror that the motorcycle was approaching at that moment, resulting in the violent collision.

Meanwhile, the 39-year-old motorcyclist remains hospitalized and clinically dead, with his condition considered irreversible. According to reports, his parents have decided to donate his organs.

The case is now in the hands of the judicial authorities, with the security camera footage capturing the moment of the crash expected to play a significant role going forward.
