Greece is set to move into a distinctly wintery weather pattern over the coming days, with rain, stronger winds and a noticeable drop in temperatures expected nationwide, according to the latest forecasts.
On Friday, light and localised rainfall is anticipated. Rain will mainly affect western and southern regions earlier in the day, gradually shifting to parts of central and northern Greece later on. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 18°C, while winds may strengthen to force 7 on the Beaufort scale, particularly in coastal and island areas.
In the greater Athens area, cloud cover will dominate, with local rain expected late in the evening. Temperatures will range from 6°C to 16°C, accompanied by moderate winds. Similar conditions are forecast for Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, where temperatures will range between 3°C and 13°C.
On Saturday, clouds will increase at times, bringing scattered rain mainly to western Greece and eastern island regions. Winds in the west will blow from the southeast at moderate levels, while northeastern areas and the northern Aegean Sea will see stronger northeasterly winds, intensifying from midday.
The cold weather will become more pronounced on Sunday and Monday. Increased cloud cover and local rain or sleet are expected across large parts of northern and central Greece, as well as several island regions. Light snowfall is forecast in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas in the north and central mainland.
Elsewhere, conditions will be slightly milder, though occasional rain remains possible in southeastern island areas. Winds will be strong, especially in the Aegean Sea, where gusts may reach force 8. Temperatures will continue to fall, with frost expected during morning and evening hours across mainland Greece, locally severe in northern regions.
