After a slow start in his match against Belgian Zizou Bergs where he dropped the first set (5-7), Stefanos Tsitsipas breezed through the next three sets (6-1,6-1, 6-3) to advance into the next round of the 2024 Australian Open on Monday.

Tsitsipas will play against Australia’s Jordan Thompson in the second round with the Greek leading in their head-to-head battles 2-1.

Yesterday, 8th-ranked Maria Sakkari defeated Japan’s Nao Hibino in the first round in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) and moved into the second round in her campaign at the Australian Open. Sakkari will meet Elina Avanesyan ranked 74th in the WTA Tour. It is the first time the two are playing against each other.
