Isidoros Kouvelos was elected as the new president of the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) on Monday, receiving 21 votes of HOC delegates to 13 votes for incumbent Spyros Kapralos, who served for four consecutive terms as the entity’s chief.
Kouvelos was also re-elected as president of the International Olympic Academy by HOC delegates, where he has served at its helm since 2009.
Kouvelos, a career shipping executive, is the spouse of former foreign minister and Athens mayor Dora Bakoyannis, who represented the municipality during the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games.
He has been a member of the HOC since 2005, as the representative of the Hellenic Equestrian Federation.
