Greek football talents continue to draw the attention of top clubs in Europe. According to a recent report in England, London-based Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur is eyeing right-back Georgios Vagiannidis of Panathinaikos FC if current starter Pedro Porro leaves the club this summer. Reports also emerged that the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon is also very keen to add the Greek player to their roster.

The Greek international is the latest in a number of younger talents that have whetted the fancy of top clubs on the continent, with Karetsas, Mouzakitis, and Kostantelias also on the radar of many teams.

While Spurs secured a spot in the Europa League final — marking a major milestone for the club — where they will face off against Manchester United in an all-English final at San Mames stadium in Bilbao, Spain, on May 21, the Spurs are already planning for next season.

As part of their transfer planning, the North London club has been actively scouting potential replacements for Porro, who could depart during the upcoming transfer window. The Greek international appears to be at the top of their shortlist, with rumors swirling that Vagiannidis, 23, is currently attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

The report comes via Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, who posted on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account that Ange Postecoglou’s (Greek-Australian coach) side is seriously considering a move for the Panathinaikos defender. Postecoglou, notably the first Greek coach to reach a European final, reportedly views Vagiannidis as a strong candidate to fill Porro’s role on the right flank.

Although Vagiannidis is under contract with Panathinaikos until the summer of 2028, the deal could be broken if Tottenham covers the buyout clause set by the Greek club.

Meanwhile, Sporting CP are also pushing hard to secure Vagiannidis’ signature. According to reports from Portugal, the Lisbon-based club has already been in contact with the player’s family — who manage his contractual rights — and has outlined a five-year deal awaiting him, contingent on a transfer agreement being reached with Panathinaikos.

Despite having previous offers rejected, Sporting remains optimistic that the deal will go through for a fee of around €10–11 million. The Portuguese side plans to make their final move for the defender once the Primeira Liga title race comes to an end.

According to transfermarkt.com, the 23-year-old Greek player is currently valued at 7 million euros on the market.
