While the overall number of American visitors to Europe has seen a dip, Greece continues to shine as a top summer destination, according to AirDNA’s latest European market review, which includes a dedicated spotlight on the country.
Greece currently ranks as the third most popular destination among American Airbnb users, trailing only Italy and France.
A Strong American Presence
Recent data, from the global analytics platform specializing in the short-term rental market, shows that Americans account for about 11% of all short-term rental (STR) reviews across Europe, making them the third-largest group of international visitors behind the French and the British.
In Greece, however, that share jumps significantly to 18.2%. The American footprint is especially prominent in Athens, where nearly one in four reviews (24.6%) comes from U.S. guests.

AirDNA’s insights also reveal the top 10 Greek destinations preferred by American travelers, based on Airbnb reviews over the past 12 months. These locations collectively represent 74% of all U.S.-originated reviews in Greece:

Premium Prices Amid Strong Demand
Greece is also among the most expensive short-term rental markets in Europe this summer, with average nightly rates already exceeding 250 euros. Only Monaco, Iceland, the UK, and Spain report higher rates. Despite the price tags, demand remains robust: bookings are trending positively, and occupancy rates for July and August are up 3% year-over-year.
