Greece is steadily emerging as the favorite holiday destination for Austrians for the summer of 2024, as data about pre-booking and flights to the country confirmed a double-digit increase during the “Ferien-Messe Wien 2024” held in Vienna, Austria from March 14-17.

The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) booth, which participated with an expanded presence this year at the Vienna Tourism Expo attracted significant interest from industry professionals.

The Greek booth hosted a slew of co-exhibitors from the country’s regions including Central Greece, Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia – Thrace, Thessaly, Epirus, Ionian Islands, and Northern Aegean, with the attending stakeholders having the opportunity to exchange views and meet with other industry professionals.

According to research by TUI – an exclusive partner at the EXPO in Vianna- and the data collected on bookings made at the exhibition, Greece remains by far the most popular destination for Austrian holidaymakers, with Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Karpathos, Corfu, and Halkidiki being at the top of their list.

Bookings with TUI indicated double-digit increases for most destinations, with some destinations, already covering 70% of their capacity for 2024.

Meanwhile, flight bookings to Greece with Austrian Airlines, Austria’s largest airline, are quite encouraging, starting from March 26th, the airline is initiating direct connections to 21 Greek destinations, including among others Mykonos, Santorini, Heraklion, Chania, Athens, Thessaloniki/Halkidiki, Kavala, Volos, Skiathos, Skyros, Rhodes, Corfu, etc.
