In a series of interviews with leading Italian media outlets during her visit to Rome, Greek Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni underscored the strategic importance of the Italian market for Greek tourism. Her visit coincided with the international forum “Bridging Destinations”, hosted by Italy’s Ministry of Tourism and attended by countries from Southeast Europe.

“IItaly continues to be one of Greece’s most important source markets,” Kefalogianni stated, citing official 2024 figures showing that over two million Italian travelers visited Greece — a number accounting for roughly 5% of total international arrivals.

A Strengthening Relationship

What stands out even more, according to the minister, is the growing trend of Italians choosing Greece outside the traditional peak months. From January to May 2024, arrivals from Italy surged by more than 60% compared to the same period in 2023. Even during the final quarter of the year, a nearly 20% increase was recorded. Early signs for 2025 also point to a continued upward trajectory, with initial indicators described as “particularly encouraging.”

“After an exceptionally strong year for Greek tourism — and for the Italian market in particular — we move forward with confidence, further strengthening the ties of cooperation between our two countries,” said Kefalogianni.

Focus on Partnership and Shared Values

The minister also emphasized Greece’s commitment to deepening partnerships with Italian travel industry professionals. “Our priority is to enhance collaboration with our Italian counterparts, in a shared journey built on common values, mutual trust, and a longstanding friendship,” she noted.
