A new fire broke out on Thursday afternoon in Aspropyrgos, a town in western Attica, prompting an immediate response from local firefighting forces.
The blaze started at around 12:30 p.m. in a Roma settlement, northeast of the location where an earlier fire had broken out in the morning, according to available information.
A total of 38 firefighters and 14 firefighting vehicles have been deployed to the area as authorities work to bring the flames under control and prevent further spread.
Earlier Aspropyrgos fire left 11 injured
The new blaze comes after a major fire earlier on Thursday in an industrial facility in Aspropyrgos, which injured 11 people and caused damage to nearby businesses.
The earlier fire broke out in the morning at a business located at the junction of Megaridos and Chios streets, sending a thick cloud of black smoke over several areas of Attica.
Three of those injured were reported to be in serious condition, while several people were transported to hospitals for treatment. The Fire Service also reported rescuing a seriously injured person from the site.
The earlier incident prompted a large firefighting operation involving 75 firefighters, 20 vehicles, four specialized units and a helicopter. A truck carrying a propane tank was reportedly inside the facility, increasing the level of danger during the operation.
The fire also led to concerns from labor representatives, who raised questions about safety measures and inspections in the wider industrial area of Aspropyrgos.
