Arriving at the Paris AI summit on Monday, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated Greece was one of the first countries to lay out a cohesive national plan regarding artificial intelligence (AI).
The Greek Premier said Greece was among the countries shaping the developments on AI in Europe.
“We are one of the first countries to have developed a coherent national strategy for artificial intelligence. We are among the seven European nations awarded the ‘AI Factory,’ a significant European funding initiative aimed at developing AI infrastructure across the continent,” he underlined.
He said Greece boasted an exceptionally rich pool of talent engaged in the field of artificial intelligence, stressing the country was also a place where major international tech giants had already invested, establishing large-scale data processing centers and extensive data hubs. He went on to state that there was a need to identify areas where state intervention is required to mitigate potential negative consequences.
Mitsotakis explained that Greece is capable of being at the forefront of “smart interventions” to curtail the negative consequences of artificial intelligence. “We are a country that has already adopted AI to optimize and enhance productivity in public administration.”
He concluded by stressing he was looking forward to a series of meaningful meetings on the matter “and to our ability, as I mentioned, not only to harness artificial intelligence to drive a “productivity revolution” in our country but also to identify the areas where state intervention is necessary to mitigate its negative consequences.”
The Paris AI summit, which has been underway in the French capital since last week, has brought together around 100 world leaders, key international organizations, and major technology firms to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.
