Iran has reportedly freed a Greek-owned tanker some two years after its seizure by the country’s military, the account Tanker Trackers posted on the platform X on Monday.

The independent website monitors the transport of crude oil around the world.

No other information was given by the account or the paywall-protected site.

Several media outlets also disseminated the news item, along with the description of a vessel that was “secretly released”.

One report stated that the vessel was the Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker, St. Nikolas.

The latter vessel was seized by Iranian navy and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces in January 2024 under a “court order” while it was carrying a load of crude oil from Iraq to Turkey through the Gulf of Oman.
