Beyoncé won album of the year at the 2025 Grammy Awards Sunday night for her kaleidoscopic reimagining of country music, “Cowboy Carter,” becoming only the fourth Black woman in history to take home the trophy.

Despite her towering stature as the most awarded and nominated artist in Grammy history—she has 35 wins and 99 nominations—Beyoncé until now had not earned the ceremony’s most prestigious prize, best album, having lost four times previously to Taylor Swift, Beck, Adele and, most recently, Harry Styles.

“It’s been many, many years,” Beyoncé said in her acceptance speech. “I hope we just keep pushing forward, opening doors.” After her win, Taylor Swift clinked glasses with Jay-Z, Beyoncé’s husband, who had criticized the Grammys a year earlier for its treatment of his wife.

At the 67th annual awards show, which took place at the Crypto.com Arena in fire-ravaged Los Angeles, Trevor Noah, in his fifth year hosting, sauntered around the Grammys floor, roasting assorted celebrities. Referencing President Trump’s new tariffs, he told Beyoncé, who overnight had teased a 2025 concert tour: “We can’t afford a new tour. Maple syrup is about to be $50.” He told Lady Gaga that the title of her upcoming album, “Mayhem,” seemed like a prescient descriptor of 2025. And he joked that AI might bring a new album from Rihanna, who hasn’t released a new record in nearly a decade.
